Kenya: missing Indians killed by special unit of criminal investigation dept, says President's aide

Two Indians missing in Kenya since July 2022 may have been killed by a unit of the government's Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). This claim was made by a close aide of Kenya President William Ruto, according to a Kenyan media report published on 21 October 2022.

Indian nationals Zulfiqar Ahmad Khan and Mohamed Zaid Sami Kidwai went missing from Mombasa road along with taxi driver Nicodemus Mwania in July. They were part of the Kenya Kwanza digital campaign team.

The Indians may have been killed by the Special Service Unit (SSU) which has since been disbanded, as per the President's aide named Itumbi. The SSU was disbanded on orders of Kenya President Ruto on 15 October after investigation suggested its hand in the disappearance of the Indians.

The President's aide hinted that the Indians may be dead, but did not offer proof. The Indian government has been in touch with Kenyan authorities over the issue.
