Journalist Attacked in Indore After Exposing Anganwadi Misconduct

Indore, Aug 13 (PTI) A journalist faced an attack after he confronted a group allegedly indulging in alcohol consumption inside an anganwadi centre in Indore, leading the police to initiate an investigation, a police official stated on Wednesday. Sagar Choukse, a local reporter for a national English daily, claimed the assailants also attempted to injure him with a knife.

According to the official, as Choukse returned home from work on Tuesday night, he discovered individuals drinking alcohol inside an anganwadi centre near his residence. The centre serves young children, pregnant women, and mothers who are breastfeeding. The journalist confronted the group to stop their activities, but they retaliated with verbal abuse and demanded money for more alcohol.

The situation escalated when Choukse resisted their demands, leading the group to physically assault him, with one member allegedly wielding a large knife in an attempt to stab him. The commotion attracted the attention of nearby residents, prompting the assailants to flee, but not before threatening Choukse with dire consequences.

Pardesipura police station in-charge RD Kanwa confirmed that a case has been registered against Shubham Choukse, Kunal Pawar, and others under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for assaulting the journalist. He added that efforts are being made to locate and apprehend the accused. Meanwhile, numerous journalists from the city gathered at the police station, staging a protest and urging authorities to take strict action against those responsible for the attack.
