Joshimath land 'sinking': most damaged buildings to be demolished says official

The number of subsidence-affected homes in Joshimath rose to 678 while 27 more families were evacuated to safety on Monday, a bulletin from the Disaster Management Authority in Chamoli said.

So far 82 families have been shifted to temporary locations in the town.

Meanwhile, amid the government's effort to shift affected locals to safe places, Joshimath administration has divided the town into 'Danger', 'Buffer', and 'Completely safe' zones, based on the magnitude of the danger, reported news agency ANI quoting an official.

An NDRF team is "on standby" to assist the local administration in any relief and rescue work at the 'sinking' border town of Joshimath in Uttarakhand, a senior officer said Monday, according to PTI.
