Jharkhand: EC recommends Hemant Soren's disqualification as MLA, CM blames BJP

Amid reports of disqualification as an MLA by Election Commission, Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren said he hasn't been informed by the poll body in the matter. He accused the BJP of 'recommending his disqualification as an MLA'.

The saffron party had alleged that Soren holds an office-of-profit by getting a stone chips mining lease in his name.

"Seems liks BJP leaders including an MP and his puppet journalists have themselves drafted ECI report, which is ususally a sealed report," Soren said in a statement
BJP MP Nishikant Dubey earlier in the day demanded mid-term polls claiming that EC has written to Governor Ramesh Bais suggesting disqualification of CM Hemant Soren from the Jharkhand Assembly. "There should be polls in all 81 constituencies on moral grounds," the MP demanded.

Quoting sources, news agency ANI reported that Jharkhand Raj Bhavan has received EC's word on the Chief Minister in connection with 'office of profit' matter.

Earlier, Governor Bias had reportedly sought ECI's opinion following complaint by the opposition BJP in connection with mining lease case. The party had alleged violation of Section 9A of Representation of the People Act in the case.

Meanwhile, the political temperature continues to simmer in the state as the ruling JMM-Congress-RJD alliance and the opposition BJP keenly waits for Governor Ramesh Bais to return to the state and inform them about the Election Commission’s opinion on a plea seeking Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s disqualification as an MLA for allegedly violating electoral law
