Italy recognises India's Covishield, jabbed travelers eligible for green pass

Italy on Friday recognised the Covishield Covid-19 vaccine. The number of European Union countries accepting the Covishield as valid proof of immunity of incoming travellers has moved to 19.

Indian vaccine cardholders are now eligible for the green pass, the Indian Embassy in Rome tweeted to inform. The tweet read that ‘as an outcome of G20 health ministers’ meeting coupled with Indian foreign ministry's persistent efforts, Italy has recognised India's Covishield’

A green pass proves the holder has been fully vaccinated or recovered from Covid, granting them access to indoor restaurants, bars, cafes and other indoor venues.

Covishield, which is the AstraZeneca vaccine produced in India, is the most widely recognised vaccine for travel in the EU after those approved by European Medicines Agency (EMA).

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom is facing severe backlash over its latest international travel advisory. Even though the UK kept Covishield, manufactured by the SII, in its list of ‘approved vaccines’, it kept India in the list of countries whose travellers need to quarantine for 10 days when they reach the UK.
