Watch: ISRO launches small payload rocket SSLV-D2 to put 3 satellites in orbit

India's space agency conducted a launch of its SSLV-D2 rocket on 10 February 2023, as ISRO tries to tap into the small satellite launch market.

Three satellites were part of the payload of the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle. The mission was to place EOS-07, an earth observation satellite made by ISRO, Janus-1, made by US-based Antaris, and AzaadiSAT-2, built by Space Kidz India in a 450-km circular orbit.

The SSLV's maiden flight in August 2022 was a partial failure due to an orbit anomaly and deviation in the rocket's flight path.

SSLV caters to the launch of up to 500 kg satellites to low earth orbits on 'launch-on-demand' basis. It provides low-cost access to space, offers low turn-around time and flexibility in accommodating multiple satellites, and demands minimal launch infrastructure.
