Is Modi government serving a particular community? Owaisi attacks BJP in Parliament

The last day of the 17th Lok Sabha session witnessed some heated moments on Saturday while discussing the Ram Temple consecration ceremony.

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) lawmaker Asaduddin Owaisi attacked the NDA government by questioning if the ruling establishment was serving a particular religion or the entire country.

“I want to ask if the Modi government is the government of a particular community, religion or the government of the entire country. Is the Modi government only of one religion and Hindutva? Does the government of India have a religion?” he said.

Asserting that the country does not have a religion, he said, “Through 22nd January (consecration of Ram temple), does this government want to send a message that one religion triumphed over the other? Does the Constitution allow this?… What message are you giving to the 17 crore Muslims in the country?”

He also declared that the Babri mosque would continue to exist at the Ram Temple site in Ayodhya. He concluded his address with "Babri Masjid zindabad" slogan.

When the BJP MPs questioned the role of Babur in razing temples, Owaisi was quick to hit back by saying that he was not the spokesperson for the Mughal emperors.

“Am I the spokesperson of Babur, Jinnah or Auranzeb? I respect Lord Ram but I hate Nathuram Godse who killed that person whose last words were Hey Ram," the AIMIM lawmaker said, calling the Supreme Court's 2019 verdict an "egregious act".
