INS Vikrant: PM Modi officially commissions warship; Indian Navy gets 1st indigenous aircraft carrier

In a historic day for the Indian Navy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commissioned INS Vikrant, the country's first indigenous aircraft carrier.

At a mega event in Kerala's Kochi, the largest warship ever to be built in India, was inducted into the naval forces. With this development, India has become a part of an exclusive club of nations with the capability to build advanced aircraft carriers.

The Vikrant warship was built at a cost of ₹20,000 crore, and has been named after its predecessor which played a crucial role in the 1971 India-Pakistan war.

Hailing the achievement, PM Modi said, "Vikrant is large and grand, Vikrant is distinct, Vikrant is special. Vikrant is not just a warship, it is the evidence of the hard work, talent, impact and commitment of India of the 21st century."
