Infosys Employee Arrested for Filming Colleague in Washroom

Bengaluru, July 2 (PTI) A 30-year-old employee of Infosys has been apprehended on charges of allegedly recording a female colleague inside the women's washroom at the company's Electronic City campus, according to police reports. The accused, Swapnil Nagesh Mali, who hails from Sangli, Maharashtra, and serves as a Senior Associate Consultant, was detained by human resources personnel and subsequently handed over to law enforcement authorities. Infosys has not yet commented on the matter. As per police accounts, the incident transpired on Monday morning when the female employee detected a suspicious reflection and movement coming from an adjacent cubicle while she was using the washroom. She reported that Mali, standing on a commode in the neighboring cubicle, was filming her on his mobile phone. Alarmed by the situation, she quickly exited the area screaming and notified her colleagues. The accused's attempt to escape was thwarted by HR staff who apprehended him. Upon examining his phone, HR personnel discovered a video of the complainant as well as another clandestinely recorded video of a different female employee. Despite his repeated apologies and attempts to erase the videos, HR staff secured a screenshot as proof prior to deletion. The woman later approached the Electronic City police, leading to the registration of a case under corresponding sections of the Information Technology Act and Section 77 (Voyeurism) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. "Based on the complaint, we have arrested the individual. Further investigation is currently in progress," stated a senior police officer.
