New Delhi/Amaravati, May 27 (PTI) - Andhra Pradesh Civil Supplies Minister, N Manohar, highlighted the global recognition of Indian standards at a Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Governing Council meeting in New Delhi. Manohar shared that Indian standards have grown significantly from just 2,000 in 2014-15 to 23,000 by 2025, underscoring BIS's impactful contribution to India's infrastructure.

"Approximately 95 percent of Indian standards are now aligned with international norms," noted Manohar in a press statement, emphasizing the central government's ambitious plan to increase the number of standards to 55,000.

The minister pointed to substantial advancements in gold hallmarking, which is currently operational across 371 districts, with plans to extend hallmarking centers to every district. Bullion hallmarking is slated for introduction soon, as stated by Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, while the silver hallmarking policy will soon be finalized.

Manohar reiterated BIS's essential role in safeguarding quality standards, ensuring product quality, and defending consumer rights, aligning India's progress with evolving international norms.
