Indian missile destroys target in 'direct hit' in DRDO-Army test-firing amid border tension

Amid border tension with both China and Pakistan, India successfully test-fired a missile air defence system.


The Defence Research and Development Organisation, or DRDO, announced that the Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile system, or MRSAM, was launched from the Integrated Test Range at Balasore in Odisha.


The missile intercepted a "high-speed, aerial target at long range", and destroyed it in a "direct hit", as per the DRDO. The test was conducted at around 10:30 am on March 27. The MRSAM is reportedly part of the Indian Army's arsenal.


The successful test comes weeks after a missile was accidentally launched from an Indian base. The unarmed missile had fallen on Pakistani territory on March 9. The Indian government had blamed a technical malfunction for the accidental firing, and regretted the incident.
