India votes against Russia for the 1st time at UN on Ukraine issue: watch why

For the first time since the Russia-Ukraine war broke out in February 2022, India voted against Russia at the United Nations Security Council. Delhi voted against Moscow on 24 August during a 'procedural vote' on Ukraine.

The Security Council had held a meeting to take stock of the six-month-old conflict on the 31st anniversary of Ukraine's independence. Russia requested a procedural vote on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's virtual participation in the meeting.

In the 15-member UNSC, 13 members voted in favour of inviting Zelenskyy.
Russia voted against, while China abstained. Russia argued that it was not against Zelenskyy's participation, but he should be physically present.

This was the first time that India voted at the UN against Russia on the issue of Ukraine. On earlier occasions, Delhi had abstained from voting.
