India's anti-terror outreach: PM Modi meets members of all-party delegations

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday met members of multi-party delegations that had recently travelled to 33 global capitals and the European Union to present India’s firm stand against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism following Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terror attack.

The delegations, comprising over 50 individuals—mainly current MPs, along with former parliamentarians and ex-diplomats—were part of a rare bipartisan initiative aimed at demonstrating national unity on the issue of terrorism.

“We are all proud of the manner in which they put forward India's voice,” Prime Minister Modi said in a post on X after meeting the delegations.

“Met members of the various delegations who represented India in different countries and elaborated on India's commitment to peace and the need to eradicate the menace of terrorism.”

The outreach mission included seven teams, with four led by MPs from the ruling alliance—two from the BJP, one from JD(U), and one from Shiv Sena—and three led by opposition MPs, representing the Congress, DMK, and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction).

Prominent parliamentarians who led delegations included BJP’s Ravi Shankar Prasad and Baijayant Panda, Congress’ Shashi Tharoor, JD(U)’s Sanjay Jha, Shiv Sena’s Shrikant Shinde, DMK’s Kanimozhi, and NCP(SP)’s Supriya Sule.

The government had designed the effort to showcase India’s unified message on the global stage. Notably, leaders across ideological lines—including Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi—joined hands to support India’s global messaging against terrorism.

“We apprised the Prime Minister of the overwhelming support extended by these friendly nations for India's resolute fight against terrorism and our unwavering commitment to global peace,” said Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde, who led the delegation to the United Arab Emirates, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone, and Liberia.

He added, “The Prime Minister lauded our efforts and shared his inspiring vision for enhancing India's stature on the world stage. His words have further motivated us to work tirelessly for the nation.”

The government has praised the initiative, which included participation from several former Union ministers like Ghulam Nabi Azad and Salman Khurshid, as a message of unity and resolve in India’s fight against cross-border terrorism.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who had earlier met with the delegates, had also lauded their efforts in conveying “India's strong stand against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.”

With representation from across the political spectrum, the outreach reinforced India's message of peace, sovereignty, and global solidarity in tackling terrorism, while also showcasing rare bipartisan coordination in foreign policy matters.
