India missile launch accident: Human error likely cause, finds probe, as per PTI report on Pakistan case

Around two weeks after an Indian missile fell in Pakistan after being accidentally launched, human error has emerged as the likely cause, as per a report. News agency PTI quoted sources as saying that "human error appears to be the reason for the incident in the ongoing probe".

A high-level Court of Inquiry was constituted following the March 9 incident. The probe team is examining the role of a Group Captain and a few other officials for lapses, as per PTI.

On March 11, two days after the missile misfire, the Indian government had blamed a "technical malfunction" during "routine maintenance" for "accidental firing of a missile". India had "deeply regretted" the incident, while expressing relief that there was no loss of life.

Later, while briefing the Parliament, Rajnath Singh had said that Indian missile systems are "reliable and safe", and safety procedures and protocol are of the "highest order".

Pakistan had claimed that the unarmed missile entered Pakistani airspace and covered over 120 km before falling near Mia Channu.
