India Successfully Evacuates Nationals Amid Iran-Israel Tensions

India has evacuated a significant number of its nationals from both Iran and Israel amid increased tensions in the region due to recent hostilities over the US action on Iranian nuclear sites. As of Tuesday, 292 Indian citizens have been brought home from Iran and 366 from Israel. This evacuation effort is part of Operation Sindhu, which was launched following the escalation of conflict between Iran and Israel. With the latest arrivals, India has successfully repatriated a total of 2,295 nationals from Iran. Two separate groups were transported from the region, with 161 Indians arriving in a chartered flight from Amman after being relocated from Israel via land crossings to Jordan. Another 165 individuals were flown back to New Delhi aboard a C-17 military transport aircraft, greeted by Union Minister L Murugan at the airport. Additionally, 292 Indian nationals and one Sri Lankan citizen were evacuated from the Iranian city of Mashhad, arriving in New Delhi on a special flight early Tuesday morning, according to External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal. The hostilities, which began over a week ago, have seen Israel and Iran engage in missile and drone strikes against each other's cities and strategic sites, significantly intensified by the US bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities. India's evacuation efforts have involved chartered flights from several locations, including Mashhad, Yerevan, and Ashgabat. On Friday, Iran lifted airspace restrictions, allowing three chartered flights from Mashhad to New Delhi — the first of which arrived late Friday night with 290 evacuees and the second on Saturday afternoon with 310 individuals. Evacuation flights from Yerevan and Ashgabat were also part of these operations, ensuring the safe return of Indian citizens.

New Delhi, June 24: India on Tuesday evacuated 292 citizens from Iran and 366 nationals from Israel amid escalating tensions following the US bombing of Iranian nuclear sites.

India has so far repatriated 2,295 nationals from Iran. Operation Sindhu was launched to bring back Indians from the hostilities between Iran and Israel.
