Indian Coast Guard Inducts Fast Patrol Vessel 'Adamya'

New Delhi, Jun 26 (PTI) – The Indian Coast Guard has bolstered its maritime capabilities with the induction of the Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) 'Adamya', the pioneering vessel in a series of eight being developed for the Coast Guard. This vessel, which employs advanced technology, was officially inducted into service on Thursday, as per official announcements.

Crafted entirely by Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL), the FPV 'Adamya' showcases India's burgeoning prowess in shipbuilding and aligns with the nation's 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiative, according to the Indian Coast Guard. An official statement described this as a major milestone for both maritime security and indigenous ship production, marking the induction of Yard 1271 'Adamya' under the prestigious '8 FPV Project' at Goa Shipyard Limited.

The ship boasts over 60 percent indigenous content, solidifying the success of the 'Make in India' initiative within the defence sector. The ICG highlighted that 'Adamya' is the first ship in its class in the ICG fleet to feature Controllable Pitch Propellers (CPPs) and locally developed gearboxes, which provide superior manoeuvrability, operational flexibility, and enhanced performance at sea.

Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, 'Adamya' includes a 30mm CRN-91 gun, two 12.7mm stabilised remote-control guns with fire control systems, an Integrated Bridge System (IBS), an Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS), and an Automated Power Management System (APMS). Such advanced systems enable the Indian Coast Guard to perform its duties with increased precision, efficiency, and responsiveness across India's extensive maritime domain.

The new FPVs, like 'Adamya', serve as "force multipliers" within the Coast Guard's operational fleet, enhancing the ability to swiftly respond to maritime law enforcement needs, coastal surveillance, search and rescue operations, and protect India's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

The induction not only bolsters India's coastal security framework but also signifies the country's growing maritime capability and technological expansion.

Recently, the fifth vessel in the series, FPV 'Achal', was ceremoniously launched on June 16. Also designed and built under strict dual-class certification from the American Bureau of Shipping and Indian Register of Shipping, the FPV 'Achal' features over 60 percent indigenous content, as previously confirmed by the defence ministry.
