IIT Madras launches web MTech program in AI for professionals

The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) has inaugurated a new Web-Enabled MTech programme (Web MTech) with a focus on Artificial Intelligence. Interested candidates have until May 31 to submit their applications for this programme.

Applications are currently open across all 11 disciplines of the Web MTech, including the recently introduced AI specialisation. For detailed information, including entrance exam syllabi, the programme structure, and application guidelines, prospective students can visit the official website at code.iitm.ac.in/webmtech.

The Web MTech programme is tailored for working professionals who wish to enhance their skills in the field of AI while maintaining their current employment. The available disciplines and specialisations for the Web MTech include:

A) Aerospace Engineering (Aerospace Engineering, Ammunition Technology)
B) Artificial Intelligence
C) Computer Science
D) Engineering (Integrated Circuits & Systems, Communication Systems & Signal Processing, Multimedia, Microelectronics)
E) Mechanical Engineering (Mechanical Design, Automotive Technology)
F) E-Mobility

Eligibility for the revamped AI program at IIT Madras requires a minimum of two years of relevant work experience and an educational background in the chosen specialization. Selection is based on an entrance test that covers discipline-specific topics and/or interviews.

The program offers key benefits such as the ability to enhance skills while continuing employment and the flexibility to adjust the pace of study to fit work commitments. Previously, IIT Madras launched a Web MTech in Industrial AI focused on specific industry needs. In response to the rising demand for a comprehensive AI curriculum, the institute now offers an expanded program that covers both fundamental and advanced AI techniques, applicable across various sectors. This includes extensive practical experience through labs and projects.

"This course addresses the market’s high demand for AI professionals. Assessments will involve remote-proctored interim evaluations and center-based end-semester exams. Students have the option to undertake projects within their professional domain, ensuring a learning experience that is immediately applicable," stated Prof. Sridharakumar Narasimhan of the Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI at IIT Madras.

This initiative by IIT-M aims to provide an opportunity for professionals to gain advanced knowledge and skills aligned with industry demands.
