IIT Kanpur Software Developer Dies in Apparent Suicide

Kanpur (UP), Aug 26 (PTI) - A 25-year-old software developer working in the cyber security department at the Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur (IIT-K) was found dead in an apparent suicide at his rented accommodation on Monday, police reported on Tuesday.

The deceased, identified as Deepak Chowdhary, was a native of Maharashtra.

He left behind a suicide note in which he expressed regret to his parents and mentioned feeling unable to keep up with the rapid advancements in the cyber security domain, according to the authorities.

Chowdhary had been affiliated with the institute's Cyber Security Department for two years, as confirmed by IIT-K director Manindra Agarwal to PTI.

"Prior to the incident, he had confided in a senior faculty member about his challenges.

He was encouraged to continue working hard and was reassured of potential success," Agarwal stated.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Kalyanpur) Ranjeet Kumar indicated that Chowdhary’s body was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan with a plastic rope.

A handwritten suicide note found in his diary read, "I don't drink or do anything wrong.

Mom, Dad, please forgive me."

According to the police, Chowdhary appeared to be in good spirits on Sunday night, dining and conversing with friends.

However, upon not receiving responses from him on Monday, his friends sought police intervention.

Upon peering through a window, they saw his body hanging.

A forensic team subsequently breached the door, gathered evidence, and sealed the room after procedures were concluded.

The body was sent for postmortem examination, and Chowdhary’s family has been informed of the incident.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Dinesh Tripathi stated that an investigation is currently underway, although no foul play is suspected at this point.
