Hyderabad: The tragic incident of suspected adulterated toddy consumption in Hyderabad has resulted in the death toll rising to four, with 37 others currently hospitalized, authorities reported on Thursday. According to the Cyberabad police, four cases of suspicious deaths have been filed.

Officials indicated that the victims had fallen ill following the alleged consumption of toddy. "We cannot conclusively determine the cause until the postmortem report is received," an official stated, adding that "the viscera have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). The individuals affected had consumed toddy from different shops on July 6 and July 8 in the areas of Kukatpally, Balanagar, and other parts of the city. Subsequently, they were admitted to hospitals on Tuesday after showing symptoms of acute gastroenteritis, officials confirmed.

The Excise Department confirmed the apprehension of five people linked to the incident. The involved toddy shops have been sealed off, and samples have been collected for chemical analysis, officials announced on Wednesday.
