Tragic Hyderabad Bus Accident Leaves 19 Dead, Survivor Recounts Ordeal

Hyderabad, Nov 3 (PTI) The tragic bus accident in Telangana that claimed 19 lives primarily affected those seated behind the bus driver, as shared by one of the survivors on Monday.

Reflecting on the traumatic event, the survivor recounted being dozed off when a sudden loud impact startled him awake, leaving him partially buried in the gravel.

“Many passengers were trapped under the gravel. The tipper lorry approached from the opposite direction. I was seated on the left side of the bus. Those sitting behind the driver couldn’t escape, and several perished. I was positioned three rows behind the conductor,” he narrated to the media.

He described how he managed to open a window and escaped, along with six others. Subsequently, another individual broke the window panes to help free additional passengers.

A doctor from the government hospital in Chevella informed that the accident victims sustained various injuries, including fractures, facial, abdominal, and leg injuries.

The injured were provided treatments such as IV fluids, TT injections and were referred to main state-run hospitals in Hyderabad.

According to TV footage, the bus was half-filled with gravel, which trapped passengers inside.

Authorities deployed heavy earth-moving equipment to clear the bus wreckage efficiently.

Chevella Inspector Sridhar suffered minor injuries during the rescue operation when an excavator accidentally rolled onto his leg, a police official reported.
