Houses turn into dust in seconds: Kullu landslide caught on camera

A devastating landslide in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district destroyed several houses and many people are feared trapped under the debris.

A video of the landslide shows many multi-storeyed buildings collapsing, leaving behind a trail of dust.

The Weatherman has issued a red alert, warning of imminent heavy to very heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh for the next two days starting August 24.

Heavy rains and thunderstorms have battered Himachal Pradesh this monsoon, killing at least 120 people. Around 40 people are still missing in the northern state.

Weather officials issued a 24-hour red alert in half the state’s districts this week, predicting “heavy to very heavy rainfall. The weather department also highlighted the possibility of “isolated spells of extremely heavy rains,” news agency PTI reported.

The weather did not spare Himachal Pradesh’s infrastructure. A total of 709 roads in the state are now shut following three major spells of heavy rains this year. Tourism was also seriously impacted.

Shimla Deputy Commissioner said several houses in the Panthaghati and Sanjauli areas were vacated as a safety measure after incidents of landslides were reported from other regions.
