Man Arrested for Murder Under Tantrik Influence in Prayagraj

Prayagraj (UP), Aug 28 (PTI) – In a shocking incident, a man has been apprehended for the brutal murder of his 17-year-old grand-nephew in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The accused, identified as Sharan Singh, allegedly committed the crime under the influence of a tantrik’s advice, a senior police official revealed.

Sharan, the brother of the victim's grandfather, was arrested from the Kareli area of the city, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police Abhishek Bharti. During questioning, Sharan confessed to the heinous act, providing details of his motive.

Grieving the suicides of his son and daughter in 2023 and 2024, Sharan sought guidance from a tantrik. The tantrik allegedly told him that his nephew, Piyush, was destined to die, and it was his survival that caused the deaths of Sharan’s own children. Following this, Sharan was allegedly advised to kill Piyush.

Piyush, a Class 11 student at Saraswati Vidya Mandir, was reported missing after he left for school on Tuesday and did not return. His concerned mother, Kamini Devi, uncovering his absence at school, filed a missing person report with the Kareli police.

The investigation took a grave turn when police discovered a torso in a drain within the Naini industrial area on Tuesday, which initially remained unidentified due to the absence of a head. The following day, Piyush’s head was found in the Saidpur Kachhar area of Kareli, confirming the identity of the body.

A breakthrough in the case came when a local woman reported witnessing a man on a scooter discarding a bundle into the drain. Her description led the police to Sharan, who matched the given details.

Upon arrest, Sharan admitted to dismembering Piyush’s body, placing the torso in a sari, and disposing of it using a scooter. He confessed to discarding the remains at separate locations.

Currently in custody, Sharan faces an ongoing investigation, as authorities aim to uncover the full extent of the incident, as stated by DCP Bharti.
