Himachal Pradesh to Invest Rs 1,730 Crore in Medical College Upgrades

Shimla, July 1 (PTI): Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced on Tuesday that the state government plans to invest Rs 1,730 crore to upgrade all medical colleges with modern technology, aiming to revolutionize the health sector.

He emphasized that this investment will ensure residents receive top-notch healthcare facilities within the state, eliminating the need to seek treatment outside.

Sukhu highlighted the government’s objective to transform Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College in Tanda, Kangra, into a leading healthcare institution in Himachal Pradesh in the upcoming year.

On Monday, Sukhu engaged in detailed discussions with department heads and faculty members of the Tanda Medical College.

He reviewed staff requirements and gathered feedback on cutting-edge medical technologies and equipment.

"I have conducted similar meetings with department heads of IGMC in Shimla, and I intend to strengthen the medical facilities at Tanda Medical College to ensure prompt treatment for patients," he stated.

Stressing the necessity of eliminating waiting periods for surgeries and diagnostic tests, Sukhu announced the introduction of new departments at Tanda Medical College and the installation of high-end medical equipment to benefit the populace.

"Additionally, positions for paramedical staff, nurses, technicians, and other support personnel will be filled to ensure efficient operation. The number of General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) seats will be increased, and B.Sc. Nursing courses will be introduced at Tanda Medical College," he added.

Citing a NAS-2025 survey, the chief minister emphasized that significant reforms in the education sector over the past two and a half years have elevated the state's ranking from 21st to 5th in the survey.
