Shimla, June 17 (PTI): A tragic accident occurred in Himachal Pradesh's Lahaul and Spiti district when a tempo traveller plunged into a gorge, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to 22 others, according to police reports.

The accident took place near Gramphu on the Koksar-Rohtang road on Monday evening.

While police had earlier confirmed the number of fatalities, the exact number of injured remained unclear until now. However, it has been revealed that a total of 24 people were aboard the ill-fated vehicle.

Those injured in the mishap have been transported to a hospital in Manali after receiving initial first-aid treatment.

The victims who lost their lives have been identified as Monika, aged 28, from Karnal, and Ravi Mehta, aged 32, from Faridabad, both from the state of Haryana.

The injured hail from various states, including Haryana, Delhi, Gujarat, Punjab, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident may have been caused by a lapse on the part of the driver, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rashmi Sharma.

Further investigations are ongoing to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.

After receiving information about the accident, three police teams promptly arrived at the scene and assisted in the rescue operations.
