Nitish Kumar took oath for the ninth time as the chief minister of Bihar on January 28 evening with the support of the BJP. The latest tie-up marks Kumar's entry back into the NDA fold after having snapped ties with the alliance, following the 2020 assembly elections. Here is how the numbers are stacked for the new BJP-JDU government in Bihar.

      BJP-led NDA

      • The JD(U) has 45 MLAs
      • The BJP has 78 MLAs
      • The HAM (S) has 4 MLAs
      • There's one Independent MLA

A party needs 122 of the total 243 seats to form a government. Nitish Kumar's government, which comprises JD(U), the BJP and HAM and an independent candidate, comfortably crosses the majority.

      Opposition

      • The RJD has 79 MLAs
      • The CPI(M-L)(L) has 12 MLAs
      • The Congress has 19 MLAs
      • The AIMIM has 1 MLA
      • The CPI(M) has 2 MLAs
      • The CPI has 2 MLAs

Whereas in the opposition camp, RJD, Congress, and Left parties together account for 115 seats, seven short of staking claim to power.
