Heavy Rains Inundate Kolkata and South Bengal Districts

The southern districts of West Bengal, including Kolkata, experienced heavy rainfall from early Tuesday, resulting in waterlogged roads and low-lying areas.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds to persist across the region until Wednesday morning.

Incessant overnight rain, caused by a low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal, led to waterlogging in various parts of Kolkata, as well as in Salt Lake and Howrah city.

Commuters faced significant challenges while commuting to work as public transport services were disrupted, compounding the difficulties faced by residents.

The IMD indicated that the western districts of Purulia and Jhargram are also expected to receive heavy rainfall until Wednesday morning.

In addition, the forecast suggests that light to moderate rainfall will occur in several areas across southern West Bengal over the next few days.

Notably, Uluberia in Howrah district recorded the state's highest rainfall at 111 mm over a 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am.

Dum Dum followed closely with 99 mm of rainfall.

During the same period, Kolkata registered 81.6 mm of rain, while the adjacent Salt Lake area received 88.3 mm.

The IMD has forecasted a few spells of light to moderate rain, with the possibility of an intense spell in the city until Wednesday morning.
