Heavy Rainfall in Jharkhand: Red Alert Issued for Multiple Districts

Ranchi, Jun 18 (PTI) Rains swept through Jharkhand on Wednesday, with the IMD predicting continued showers until June 21. Kuru in Lohardaga district recorded the highest rainfall of 144 mm in the 24 hours leading up to 8:30 am, according to an official. Ranchi registered 128 mm of rainfall, while Kuchai in Saraikela-Kharswan followed closely with 124.2 mm. A red alert has been issued, warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in several districts, including Bokaro, Dhanbad, Hazaribag, Giridih, and Ranchi. In light of this alert, the Ranchi district administration has advised residents to avoid low-lying areas, refrain from unnecessary travel, and take caution on waterlogged roads. Citizens have also been cautioned to handle electrical appliances carefully. Ranchi Meteorological Centre's Deputy Director, Abhishek Anand, stated that widespread rainfall is anticipated across the state until June 21, with expected spells of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in certain regions. The southwest monsoon made its arrival in the state on Tuesday, covering 18 out of the 24 districts. Anand mentioned that conditions are favorable for the monsoon to soon cover more areas, including parts of Latehar, Hazaribag, and Koderma, as well as the remaining districts such as Garhwa, Palamu, and Chatra.
