Allahabad HC Questions Gym Safety for Women Amid Allegations

Prayagraj, Sep 2 (PTI): The Allahabad High Court has expressed significant concerns regarding the safety and dignity of women in gyms, particularly when trained by male trainers without proper safeguards. Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav raised these issues during a hearing of an appeal filed by Meerut-based gym trainer, Nitin Saini, who faces allegations of making caste-based slurs against a female client.

The court has scheduled the next hearing for September 8. The victim has further claimed in her testimony that the accused created obscene videos of another female client, distributing the material back to the woman involved. The high court highlighted that these actions could fall under Sections 354 and 504 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertain to assault on the modesty of women and intentional insult intended to provoke a breach of peace, respectively.

In an order dated August 27, the court underscored the serious issue of male trainers imparting instruction to female clients in gyms without ensuring adequate safety measures. Consequently, the Investigating Officer of Police Station Brahmpuri, Meerut, has been instructed to submit a personal affidavit clarifying whether the gym owned by the appellant was legally registered, and whether Nitin Saini has been arrested. Furthermore, they must confirm whether the gym employs female trainers.
