Haryana to ban sale of liquor in plastic bottles starting Feb 29: Deputy CM Chautala

In a recent statement, Haryana's Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala, affirmed the government's resolute stance on curbing illicit liquor within the state.

Responding to queries during the budget session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha, Chautala, who oversees the Excise and Taxation Department, highlighted a substantial increase in excise revenue from Rs. 6,100 crore to Rs. 11,000 crore over the past four years, crediting the success to a robust excise policy.

As part of their ongoing efforts to tackle the issue, the excise department has issued a directive mandating the sale of liquor in glass bottles instead of plastic. Chautala declared that starting from February 29, 2024, the sale of liquor in plastic bottles will be prohibited in the state. This decision aligns with the government's excise policy aiming to deter illicit liquor sales.

Chautala emphasized that the move to glass bottles would simplify transportation and track & trace processes, ensuring transparency and effectively curtailing the sale of illicit liquor.
