South Calcutta Law College Suspends Classes Amid Harassment Claims

Kolkata, June 30 (PTI): The South Calcutta Law College has announced an indefinite suspension of classes following allegations involving a student being harassed by an alumnus and two seniors. A notice released on Monday confirmed this decision. The governing body of the institution decided on this course of action.

The notification issued by the college on June 29 declared, "All BA LLB and LLM (General and Honours) classes at South Calcutta Law College will be suspended indefinitely, and the college premises will be off-limits to students until further notice."

A Special Investigating Team (SIT) has been formed to probe the incident, and as part of the investigation, the team has sealed several areas in the college, including the union room, a washroom, a gate, and the guard's room. A senior officer of the Kolkata Police stated, "The guard room, union room, one washroom and a gate have been sealed as part of our probe into the matter. These locations were identified as sites where the victim was allegedly harmed by the accused."

Police have apprehended four individuals in connection with the case. The primary suspect, Monojit Mishra, along with two other students and a security guard, are currently in custody.
