Hack attack on India's census data? Modi govt clarifies in Parliament

Days after a cyber attack on AIIMS Delhi sparked concerns, the Union government denied any hack attacks on India's census data.

The government on 20 December 2022 said that no cyber attack or data hacking incident had been observed in the Data Centre, or the Disaster Recovery Sites of the Office of Registrar General and Census Commissioner of the country.

The information was given in a reply to the Lok Sabha by Union Minister of State (MoS), Home, Ajay Kumar Mishra.

He added that a multi-layered security approach had been adopted to keep census data safe.

On December 13, Ajay Kumar Mishra had reportedly informed the Lok Sabha that the number of cyber-crime incidents, including frauds, were on the rise, amid the enhanced use of cyberspace.

The MoS shared the input in a written reply to a query of fellow Lower House members Nishikant Dubey, Jual Oram, and Aparupa Poddar.
