Caretaker Couple Arrested for Murder of Elderly Woman in Guwahati

Guwahati, Jul 3 (PTI) City police have arrested a man and his wife for their alleged involvement in the murder of a 72-year-old woman in Guwahati. Officials disclosed the details on Thursday. Addressing a press conference, Guwahati Police DCP (Central), Amitabh Basumatary, stated that the incident occurred on Wednesday in the Kharghuli area where the elderly woman resided with the caretaker's family. "During the investigation, it was revealed that the caretaker and his wife were involved in the murder. We have apprehended both individuals, who reside on the same premises," he said. The victim has been identified as Bandana Das, who had been living alone following her husband's death. Her brother's family lives nearby. According to Basumatary, after thorough interrogation, the caretaker admitted to committing the crime with his wife's help. "He confessed that the victim frequently scolded his family over trivial matters, and out of anger, he stabbed her to death," the DCP explained. Police have also recovered the murder weapon from the premises along with a cloth used to clean the crime scene.
