Govt: Russia-Ukraine war led to increase in fuel prices

Dismissing Opposition criticism that the increase in petrol and diesel prices in the country was linked to the end of the election season, the govt has said that the international situation due to the war in Ukraine has led to the hike in fuel prices.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal has said that prices of oil, food and other essential commodities have increased across the world because of the Russian offensive in Ukraine and inspite of that the govt has tried to keep inflation under control.

He added that opposition parties were blaming the BJP govt for the hike in fuel prices because they were frustrated after their loss in the recently ended assembly elections.

Petrol price on Monday was hiked by 30 paise a litre and diesel by 35 paise, taking the total increase in rates in the last one week to Rs 4-4.10 per litre. It is the 6th increase in fuel rates in the last 7 days.
