Gorakhpur Airport Expansion: New Terminal to Boost Capacity

Gorakhpur Airport Expansion: New Terminal to Boost Capacity

Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh (UP), Jun 25 (PTI): Exciting developments are underway at Gorakhpur Airport, as a new terminal building is set to significantly boost its operational capacity.

Currently facilitating over two dozen flights to major Indian cities, the airport’s upgraded infrastructure will soon be able to handle approximately 200 flights daily, a colossal increase from its existing 26.

The passenger handling capacity will also see a substantial rise, escalating from 270 to a remarkable 2,500 per hour with the new terminal in operation.

A pivotal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Tuesday, marking the collaboration between the Indian Air Force, Airports Authority of India (AAI), and the Gorakhpur district administration for this ambitious expansion project.

The MoU allows for the transfer of 42 acres of land, currently under the Military Engineering Services, from the Air Force to the airport for the development of the new terminal.

Airport Director Parashar mentioned that the land, adjacent to the current airport facility, will undergo realignment to accommodate new construction.

Enhancements in connectivity infrastructure are also proposed, including a roundabout from Nandanagar, an underpass, and improved four-lane road access to streamline traffic flow.

With designated space for 10 aircraft, operational efficiency is expected to improve, speeding up flight turnaround times at Gorakhpur Airport.
