Rejuvenation Effort for Manorama River in Gonda Led by District Magistrate Neha Sharma

Rejuvenation Effort for Manorama River in Gonda Led by District Magistrate Neha Sharma

Lucknow/Gonda (UP), Jul 4 (PTI) In a concerted effort to rejuvenate the Manorama river in Gonda, the district administration has launched activities including desilting, garbage removal, and afforestation along its banks. Acting on Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's directives, District Magistrate Neha Sharma has spearheaded this initiative, aiming to restore the river with public participation, the Uttar Pradesh government announced. District Magistrate Sharma emphasized that the Manorama river is more than just a water body; it represents cultural heritage. "Reviving it will be a source of pride for our community," Sharma remarked.

Over the years, the Manorama river has experienced significant decline, nearly disappearing as a result of silt accumulation, encroachments, and depleted water sources.

Its revival is expected to mark a significant achievement in water conservation while restoring Gonda's ecological and cultural hallmark, the government stated.

During her inspection of the river from its source at Manorama Sarovar in Gonda district, the District Magistrate provided detailed directions to various departments.

The forest department has been tasked with planting trees such as peepal, neem, and pakad along the river's banks. Simultaneously, extensive desilting and cleaning operations are underway.

The river section from the Gonda-Balrampur road to Tadilal village is set for clearing, with plans to reroute the water stream.

A collaborative, multi-departmental strategy is in place with specific duties allocated to each department.

The MGNREGA cell will mobilize labor, while the forest department will focus on afforestation efforts.

The irrigation department has been tasked with conducting a technical evaluation of the river's structure and flow, the government stated.
