Golden Temple museum installs portrait of man who killed Sutlej Yamuna Link canal engineers

The Central Sikh Museum in Punjab's Golden Temple has installed portrait of slain pro-Khalistan supporter Balwinder Singh Jatana

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Commitee (SGPC) on October 16 put up his photo saying Jatana was a 'warrior, a protector of water.'

Jatana was killed in 1991 in a police encounter following his rebellion against the Satluj Yamuna Link (SYL) canal.

He was accused of killing SYL project's chief engineer ML Sikri and superintendent engineer AS Aulakh at the canal office in Chandigarh in 1990.

Jatana had reportedly hatched the murder conspiracy with members of a pro Khalistan group named Babbar Khalsa.

The project which was aimed at carrying water from Punjab to Haryana was stalled after the killing of the officials.
