Panaji, Jul 2 (PTI) — In a recent development, the Goa government has announced that widows with children under the age of 21 will receive a monthly financial assistance of Rs 4,000. The decision follows the integration of two separate women-centric schemes into a single streamlined initiative.

During a press conference, which was also attended by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Desai explained the changes. "Previously, eligible individuals had to apply separately to the Social Welfare Department under the Griha Aadhar scheme to receive Rs 1,500 each month. An additional application had to be submitted to the State Women and Child Welfare Department for the Rs 2,500 monthly widow assistance," he stated. "These schemes have now been unified under the social welfare department, and eligible widows will receive a total of Rs 4,000 per month."

Minister Desai reassured beneficiaries that they are not required to personally request the removal of their names from the women and child welfare department's records. The social welfare department will handle the necessary administrative processes to ensure recipients are updated in the new system.
