Dilip Ghosh Dismisses Rumors of New Political Party Formation

Dilip Ghosh Dismisses Rumors of New Political Party Formation

Kolkata, July 4 (PTI) - Dismissing ongoing speculations, senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh on Friday affirmed his unwavering allegiance to the party, quelling rumors about launching a new political outfit.

Ghosh’s statement comes amid persistent chatter over the past few weeks suggesting he might consider forming a new party ahead of West Bengal's assembly elections next year, especially since his recent absence from the state BJP's frontline activities.

“The BJP has been pivotal for me, making me an MLA, an MP, and entrusting me with organizational duties. Even the vehicle and security I have come from the party. I have never made any demands. If the party wants me to function as an ordinary member, I’m ready. If they summon me, I'll be there. If not, that's fine too. This is the way the system operates,” Ghosh remarked while speaking to reporters during his morning walk in New Town.

Known for his political musings during his morning routines, Ghosh played a significant role as the BJP’s West Bengal president, a time when the party made substantial inroads in the state.

He emphasized that there’s no need for a new party, asserting that the BJP is equipped to meet the people’s aspirations.

“I played a part in establishing the party here. Starting a new party isn't necessary. The BJP, which we've nurtured for 70 years, will serve the people's aspirations. A new party isn't required,” he stated.

In response to social media speculation about a potential development before July 21—a date of political importance for the ruling TMC—he commented, “Imagination is free. Let people imagine until the 21st. Tarik pe tarik (Date after date). But that’s how some remain in the spotlight. And Dilip Ghosh is still very much in the spotlight.”

Ghosh faced internal criticism for attending the inauguration of the new Jagannath temple in Digha and meeting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Reasserting his stance, he clarified, “I wasn’t there on anyone’s behalf. I am a taxpayer. The temple was built with public money. As a responsible citizen, I felt it right to attend.”

Addressing his rapport with TMC leaders like Kunal Ghosh and Aroop Biswas, he remarked, “I’ve known them for a long time and maintain a personal relationship. It’s unrelated to politics.”

With a smile, he concluded, “My friendships and enmities aren’t casual.”
