General Vijay Kumar Singh sworn in as 25th Governor of Mizoram

General Vijay Kumar Singh was sworn in as the 25th Governor of Mizoram on Thursday. The ceremony was attended by key officials, including Chief Minister Lalduhoma. Singh, a former Army Chief, also served as a BJP MP and Minister.

General Vijay Kumar Singh sworn in as 25th Governor of Mizoram

Former Army Chief General Vijay Kumar Singh was sworn in as Mizoram's 25th Governor on Thursday at a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan’s circular lawn. The oath was administered by Justice Vijay Bishnoi, Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.

The event was attended by Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, cabinet members, Assembly Speaker Lalbiakzama, Deputy Speaker Lalfamkima, and key officials. Former Chief Ministers Zoramthanga and Lal Thanhawla were also present.

Born on May 10, 1951, General VK Singh served as the 24th Chief of Army Staff from 2010 to 2012. After retiring, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2014 and was elected to the Lok Sabha from Ghaziabad in 2014 and 2019.

During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first term, Singh served as Minister of State for External Affairs, Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), and Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation. In Modi's second term, he handled the portfolios of Road Transport and Highways and Civil Aviation.

Prior to his arrival in Aizawl, Singh visited the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati to seek blessings.
