Gangster's Mother Harjit Kaur Shot Dead in Punjab's Batala

Chandigarh, June 27 (PTI) - In a tragic incident in Punjab's Batala, Harjit Kaur, the mother of the incarcerated gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, and another individual were shot dead by unidentified assailants on motorcycles.

The attack occurred around 9:30 pm on Thursday on Qadian Road, within the Civil Lines area, according to police reports.

Kaur sustained critical injuries and was taken to a hospital in Amritsar, where she succumbed to her wounds, as reported by a senior Batala police official.

Karanvir Singh, who was accompanying Harjit Kaur in the car, was declared dead upon arrival at the Batala Civil Hospital, stated Deputy Superintendent of Police Paramveer Singh.

The attackers managed to flee the scene, and law enforcement agencies have intensified efforts to apprehend them.

Authorities have registered the case and formed special teams to investigate and capture the culprits, with the motive behind the attack still under investigation.

Both victims suffered bullet injuries to the face, chest, and stomach, as confirmed by the officials.

Harjit Kaur, hailing from Bhagwanpur, had been previously elected as a member of the village panchayat.

Gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, involved in multiple criminal cases including the 2022 Sidhu Moosewala murder case, was detained in March under the PIT-NDPS Act and was relocated from Bathinda Central Jail to Silchar Jail in Assam.
