Gandhi Vows to Empower Tribals with Leadership in Congress

New Delhi, Jun 27 (PTI) Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, emphasized the Congress party's commitment to empowering the tribal community by granting them political power and a voice within the party. Following a meeting with tribal society representatives at his residence, Gandhi shared insights from their discussion, asserting the party's intention to cultivate tribal leadership nationwide. "We aim to promote tribal leaders within Congress across all states," he remarked during the interaction.

Gandhi expressed his desire to support the tribal community by urging unity among them and encouraging genuine advocates for tribal rights to take prominent roles. "We want to see 10-15 prominent tribal leaders emerge in every state," he told the representatives, assuring them of his support in their "fight."

The former Congress chief conveyed his goal to socially strengthen the tribal community by granting them political power, starting with providing them positions, voice, and backing within the Congress party.

In a message shared on his WhatsApp channel, Gandhi highlighted the persistent struggles of the tribal community for water, forest, land, and constitutional rights. "Whether it's social injustice or land being taken away due to digitization, the tribals continue to face challenges," he stated.

The Congress party, as part of its 'Sangthan Srujan Abhiyan,' has initiated appointing new district presidents, considering the inclusiveness and participation of tribal and Bahujan communities. "We started this initiative in Gujarat and plan to implement it across all states," he said. Gandhi expressed optimism about the impact of a united tribal voice gaining strength in power, suggesting it could bring about significant change.

Gandhi engaged with the tribal representatives on June 23 at his residence. Vikrant Bhuria, chairman of the All India Adivasi Congress, noted that representatives from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Jharkhand participated in the meeting. Gandhi assured them that the youth from tribal districts would be prioritized for party tickets.
