Ex-India Intel head Avtar Saini killed while cycling in Navi Mumbai

Former India Intel chief Avtar Saini was involved in a fatal accident early morning on February 28. The 68-year-old was out cycling on the streets of Navi Mumbai when he was hit by a speeding cab around 5:50 am.

Saini, who was credited with working on the Intel 386 and 486 microprocessors, was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

Describing the tragic incident, police said the cab driver had tried to flee from the scene. Authorities have now registered an FIR against the driver, who was identified as Hrishikesh Khade.

“Avtar played a key role in setting up Intel R&D center in India. He had an illustrious career at Intel from 1982 to 2004 during which he was instrumental in the design of several processors,” current India Intel president Gokul Subramaniam said.

Cab driver Hrishikesh Khade was booked under IPC sections relating to rash driving and negligence. A notice has also been served to the accused.
