New Delhi, Jun 25 (PTI): The Election Commission announced on Wednesday that it had successfully released index cards for the latest assembly bypolls within 72 hours, thanks to its cutting-edge digital platform.

This index card, while not statutory, offers valuable post-election statistical insights that are crucial for stakeholders aiming to comprehend voting trends.

The commission utilized its novel digital platform, ECINET, for the by-elections that took place on June 19 in five assembly constituencies across Kerala, Gujarat, Punjab, and West Bengal, with the results being declared on June 23.

According to the poll authority, this enhanced, tech-driven system efficiently offered timely updates on estimated voter turnout trends during the bypolls.

With the new system, a significant portion of the index card's data fields are now auto-populated using ECINET's capabilities.

Prior to ECINET's introduction, generating index cards required considerable time, often taking days, weeks, or even months, as officials manually filled and verified the information.

The reports produced include a range of data dimensions, encompassing details such as candidates, electors, votes cast and counted, party-wise and candidate-wise vote shares, gender-specific voting patterns, regional diversities, and political party performances.
