Election Commission publishes electoral bonds data

The Election Commission on March 14 published on its website the electoral bonds data provided by the State Bank of India, a day before the Supreme Court's deadline.

The data contains two lists. The first one has information on the companies that purchased the bonds, along with denominations and dates. Whereas the second list has names of political parties, denominations of the bonds, and the dates on which they were encashed.

"In compliance of Supreme Court's directions, contained in its order dated February 15 and March 11, 2024 (in the matter of WPC NO.880 of 2017), the State Bank of India (SBI) had provided the data pertaining to the electoral bonds to the Election Commission of India (ECI) on March 12, 2024," the election commission said in a statement.

"The Election Commission of India has today uploaded the data on electoral bonds on its website as received from SBI on as is where is basis," it added

According to the data uploaded by the poll panel, the buyers of electoral bonds include Grasim Industries, Megha Engineering, Piramal Enterprises, Torrent Power, Bharti Airtel, DLF Commercial Developers, Vedanta Ltd., Apollo Tyres, Lakshmi Mittal, Edelweiss, PVR, Keventer, Sula Wine, Welspun, and Sun Pharma.

The parties that redeemed electoral bonds include the BJP, Congress, AIADMK, BRS, Shiv Sena, TDP, YSR Congress, DMK, JDS, NCP, Trinamool Congress, JDU, RJD, AAP, and the Samajwadi Party, according to the data.

The top court had given the Election Commission time till 5 pm of March 15 to upload the data on its website.
