Elangovan Skeptical of BJP’s Vice President Nomination of Radhakrishnan

Chennai, Aug 18 (PTI) - Senior DMK figure TKS Elangovan expressed skepticism on Monday regarding the BJP's decision to propose Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan for the role of vice president. According to Elangovan, this nomination offers no substantial benefit for Tamil Nadu.

Elangovan, who previously served as a Rajya Sabha MP, questioned the rationale for the DMK to back Radhakrishnan's appointment, emphasizing that his party would adhere to the stance of the INDIA bloc, where DMK plays a significant role.

He remarked that Radhakrishnan's bid for the vice-presidency is a personal advancement for him, yet lacks tangible advantages for Tamil Nadu.

The DMK leader accused the central BJP government of persistently disrespecting Tamil Nadu and pointed out that Radhakrishnan's candidacy comes at a time when the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are on the horizon, slated for March-April 2026.

He further suggested that the BJP's choice of a Tamilian for the vice-presidential post is an attempt to project a favorable image among the Tamil populace.

"Additionally, the tenure of the incoming vice president will be limited to roughly two years, fulfilling the remaining term of Jagdeep Dhankar," Elangovan commented to
