The killing of Indian-born Canadian Khalistani separatist leader, Hardeep Singh Nijjar has ignited a major diplomatic row between Delhi and Ottawa

Nijjar who was gunned down in Surrey on 18th June 2023 had entered Canada on a fake passport in 1996 as per India's dossier on him.

In 2014, a Red Corner notice was issued against Nijjar, and Indian intelligence agencies informed Canada about his involvement in over a dozen murder cases and other terrorist activities in India.

However, Canada took no significant action against him, except for placing him on a 'no-fly list,' Indian Express reported quoting the intelligence agency file on Nijjar.

Nijjar had been associated with Khalistani militants since the 1980s and travelled to Pakistan in 2012, where he received training in arms and explosives.

Upon returning to Canada, he began raising funds for terrorist activities through his associates involved in drug and arms smuggling within Canada.

In 2014, Nijjar planned a terror attack in Haryana's Sirsa, but the Indian government denied him a visa, according to the dossier.
