ED Raids TMC MLA's Residence in Recruitment Scam Investigation

Kolkata, Aug 25 (PTI) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is conducting a raid on the residence of TMC MLA Jiban Krishna Saha in West Bengal's Murshidabad district in connection to the ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in the recruitment of school teachers, a senior officer has reported.

The operation unfolded dramatically when the legislator, upon learning about the raid, attempted to escape by scaling the boundary wall of his property. However, he was quickly pursued and apprehended by the officers in a nearby area. Currently, they are interrogating him, according to the ED officer.

The raid was prompted by information related to a financial transaction involving a man from Birbhum district, connected to the alleged scam in school teacher recruitment. This individual accompanied the ED team to Saha’s residence earlier this morning, the officer further explained.

It is worth noting that the central agency had previously questioned Saha’s wife concerning the scam. Additionally, the CBI had taken Saha into custody in April 2023 concerning this case, although he was granted bail in May.

While the Enforcement Directorate is examining the money laundering aspects of the purported scam, the CBI continues to investigate its criminal connections.
