Delhi University ECA Quota Offers 1,347 Seats for 2025-26

Delhi University introduces 1,347 seats under ECA quota for 2025-26 across 14 categories including divinity and digital media, managed by a centralized committee with a focus on nurturing talents beyond academics.

Delhi University ECA Quota Offers 1,347 Seats for 2025-26

New Delhi, Jul 4 (PTI) - Delhi University is offering a remarkable 1,347 seats under its Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA) quota for the 2025-26 academic year, embracing student talents across 14 diverse categories ranging from divinity to digital media.

This year's ECA admissions at DU cover an extensive array of categories, including creative writing (in both English and Hindi), debate (English and Hindi), digital media (with focuses such as photography, filmmaking, and animation), divinity, fine arts (including sketching, painting, and sculpture), music (both vocal and instrumental, Indian and western), various forms of dance (Indian classical, Indian folk, western, and choreography), theatre, quiz, National Cadet Corps (NCC), National Service Scheme (NSS), and Yoga.

Students can engage with sub-disciplines under each category, ensuring they can apply according to their precise interests and talents. All admissions under the ECA quota will be centrally managed through DU's online portal.

"The trials, allocations, and entire admission process, inclusive of the Divinity category, will be governed by a centralized ECA committee and not by individual colleges," explained Prof Deepti Taneja, Convenor of DU's ECA Admissions Committee.

The official ECA seat matrix allocates 13 seats under the divinity category this year, distributed among four colleges: Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College (4 seats), Sri Guru Nanak Dev Khalsa College (2 seats), Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce (4 seats), and Mata Sundri College for Women (3 seats). These institutions are maintained by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee.

Taneja elaborated that evaluation in the divinity category assesses candidates' proficiency in 'shabad kirtan paath', judged by members of the Sikh community. "Candidates should bring their instruments and perform according to their level of expertise. Judges might also request an additional composition of the candidate’s choice. One accompanist, either vocal or instrumental, is allowed depending on the student's primary performance area," she added.

DU will provide detailed guidelines for each ECA category, including divinity, on its admissions website ahead of the trial dates. According to Taneja, Delhi University remains a sought-after institution for students nationwide.

"Through ECA admissions, DU is dedicated to recognizing and nurturing student talents that extend beyond academics. Under Anoop Lather, Chairperson of the University Culture Council, DU has continually achieved accolades at national youth events like the AIU Youth Festivals," Taneja shared.

ECA admissions will hinge on a composite score, assigning 75% weightage to ECA performance (certificates and trials) and 25% to the CUET score. Aspiring students are encouraged to prepare diligently for the trials and to wisely select course and college preferences, referencing the official seat matrix.

Prof Gurmohinder Singh, Principal of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, highlighted the central role of students selected under the divinity category in the college's cultural and spiritual life. "We select students well-versed in Gurbani, who represent the college at cultural events and lead prayers during formal gatherings. Additionally, we appoint a contractual Divinity teacher to guide and train these students, with other interested students welcome to learn," he stated.

The university has advised students to frequently visit the official admissions website for updated information.
