Pune, Jul 16 (PTI) — Dipak Tilak, the distinguished great-grandson of the esteemed Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak and trustee editor of the Marathi newspaper Kesari, has passed away at the age of 78. He left for his heavenly abode in the early hours of Wednesday at his residence in Pune, as confirmed by family sources.

The cause of his demise was attributed to age-related ailments, they mentioned.

Dipak Tilak is survived by a son, a daughter, and grandchildren. His mortal remains have been placed for public homage at the historically significant Tilakwada from 8 am to 11 am on Wednesday.

The final rites are scheduled to be conducted at the Vaikunth crematorium around noon, according to family sources.

In addition to his esteemed role as the trustee editor of Kesari, a publication founded by Lokmanya Tilak in 1881, Dipak Tilak also made notable contributions as the vice-chancellor of Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth for a brief period.

He was held in high regard within both academic and journalistic communities for his steadfast dedication to maintaining the legacy of the legendary nationalist thinker and social reformer, Lokmanya Tilak.
