Announcing the verdict on Article 370, the Supreme Court said that Jammu and Kashmir did not retain sovereignty when it acceded to India.
Citing the Instrument of Accession, CJI DY Chandrachud said that Jammu and Kashmir did not retain an element of sovereignty when it joined the Union of India.
He added that a proclamation issued by Yuvraj Karan Singh in 1949 said the Constitution of India would supersede all other constitutionals provisions in the state.
The proclamation reflects the full and final surrender of sovereignty by Jammu and Kashmir to its sovereign ruler India, said Chandrachud.
The CJI further said that the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir was only to further define the relationship between the Union of India and the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Reacting to Sinha's comments, NC leader Omar Abdullah posted pictures of his gates and said 'Dear Mr LG these chains that have been put on my gate have not been put by me so why are you denying what your police force has done. It&rsquo;s also possible you don&rsquo;t even know what your police is doing? Which one is it? Are you being dishonest or is your police acting independent of you?'

Writing the judgement for himself and Justices Gavai and Surya Kant, Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud said Article 370 of the Constitution was a temporary provision and the president has the power to revoke it.
The apex court also upheld the validity of the decision to carve out the union territory of Ladakh from Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019.
The erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir does not have internal sovereignty different from other states of the country, he said.

The Supreme Court on Monday upheld the Centre's August 5, 2019 decision to abrogate Article 370, which bestowed a special status on the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, and said steps should be taken to conduct elections to the Assembly in the Union Territory by September 30 next year.
The apex court also directed that statehood to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir be restored at the earliest.

In a unique ritual in MP, devotees let cows trample themselves to fulfil their wishes.

In a unique tradition, devotees in the Bhidavad village of Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain district let several cows trample them.
The ritual, known as Guari Puja, is performed a day after Diwali. Devotees believe that by doing this their wishes will come true.
News agency ANI shared a video of the event in which four men lied down facing the ground as the cows were released.
After several cows passed over them, the locals attending the event helped the men get up.

"In view of the statement we do not find it necessary to determine whether the reorganisation of the State of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir is permissible under Article 3.

Chief Justice of Indian DY Chandrachud said, "Article 370 was introduced to serve two purposes. First, the transitional purpose to provide for an interim arrangement until the Constituent Assembly of the state was formed."
It was an interim arrangement in the view of the special circumstances because of the war conditions in the state, the CJI added.
The court also said that when Jammu and Kashmir acceded to India, it did not retain its sovereignty. Justice Chandrachud said that a proclamation issued by Yuvraj Karan Singh in 1949 said the Constitution of India would supersede all other constitutionals provisions in the state.
